Please help support this amazing cause...

We at Empire are supporting a fantastic small local charity/collective who are building shelters for the refugees in the Calais jungle. Last month they raised the funds to build the first 10 of these shelters. These were assigned to vulnerable women who are either pregnant or with young children.

The team want to build more and a couple of weeks ago we helped build an 11th shelter in the grounds of St Andrews Church on Garratt Lane. Giles Sequeira and Justin Basini will be spending the night in the shelter on Monday 21st December with their respective kids Luca, Liv, Dan, Maddy & Jemima to help raise money – each shelter requires approximately £500 of materials which are supplied at cost by Hitchcock & King.

The shelter is basically a windowless box with no insulation. For some this will be home for the foreseeable future, for us just an uncomfortable and cold night but at least we have electricity.

Please give generously, it is going to be a harsh winter. We are hoping to join the team on their next trip to Calais and help build the new shelters so watch this space for news of our progress!

Supporting local community projects...

We at Empire are supporting a fantastic local community project – Paradise Co-Op. They have set up community farm on land kindly provided by Wandsworth Prison and are busy bringing this forgotten piece of land back into use.

The farm includes a few pigs, a large natural pond, beehives and a series of raised beds which we built in association with Hitchcock & King who donated the railway sleepers – all 90 of them! They are also running an educational program with a local school which they are hoping to roll out more widely.

We have helped to build the external fencing, picked up piglets in our truck joined the clearance team and continue to look for opportunities to help the farm develop.

Passionate about our community

Empire are passionate about our community – We have undertaken a number of charitable events locally, in Earlsfield, including sending a team to help with the refurbishment of Ironsides Rugby Club, unloading the annual truckload of Christmas trees for our local school Beatrix Potter... which is no mean feat! The guys made light work of what is usually an arduous task taking a matter of minutes to complete a job that usually takes over an hour!

We are also supporting the Barclay's tree planting project by assisting with the planting and protection of young trees at Beatrix Potter – where we sent a team to assist with the planting of young saplings as part of this initiative... causing some confusion when one of the school boys pointed and said 'you built our bathroom are you building one here in the playground?

If you know of a worthwhile cause or just someone who could really use a hand then please contact us and tell us how we can help.

"A huge thanks to you all for the fantastic job on Saturday. It is great to see the vision coming into fruition! We are very pleased with the results. Your teams were so hard-working and polite and it made the day so enjoyable."
